Girl Who Once Held Someone
Artist: Rae Morris
Song: For You
Album: Unguarded
Model: ‘Arrow’/Erin
Location: Dunraven, South Glamorgan, Wales

Notes:-
I first heard this song on TV as a series finale came to a climax. I appreciate well thought out film production that uses appropriate music soundtracks. I often place client viewings of a series of images to music, it greatly enhances the experience. It incorporates another sense and adds atmosphere and drama for the viewer.

The song reminds me a bit of Clannad, an Irish band that had a mystical air to their songs. This is inevitably about losing love and anyone that’s gone through this unfortunate experience will easily identify with it. I originally intended to shoot the line “I’m the girl who borrowed someone” as it’s such a powerful statement and exactly how you feel when a loved one moves on, apparently so easily from you. After viewing what we’d created I decided this line was more appropriate.

The shot is specifically an ode to a friend who’s love left her for another. She was a beautiful, gentle, gorgeous human being and he was a total shit. A loser that for some unknown reason she adored. She was broken, devastated, as we all are when this happens. We helped her recover in the early days by just being there and having her round to our flat to chat for hours. Offering no advice (how can you?), just listening and supporting. The teddy in Erin’s arms reminds me of our friend at that time, sweet, innocent and lonely. I moved away and we lost touch but if your still out there, I hope things have worked out well for you as they were starting to when we left.

The shot was completed at Southerndown Bay (Dunraven) in South Glamorgan, Wales. It’s a beach I’ve photographed several times and love. It’s a wild place usually but has everything a photographer could want, sand, ledges, dramatic layered cliffs and big rocks. It was Erin’s idea to introduce the teddy bear and I think it adds to the innocence. I know I felt exposed and naive when I lost my first love and I guess it’s a common feeling…
