Notes:-
This is dedicated to my best friend. When I met him in 2000 he was 21, a bit shy but a genius songwriter and guitarist. We played in a band called “Iron the Cat” and it was a struggle to get him to play a guitar solo facing the audience (even though he was the best guitarist I’d ever met).

A few years later, he and I were rocking out in front of hundreds of people, crawling around the stage floor with him picking out amazing solos with the guitar behind his head. He happily sang backing vocals and we were recording acoustic songs he’d written in his bedroom at home at his parents’ house.

Now he fronts his own band, has a beautiful wife, two beautiful daughters and a lovely home and successful career outside of music.

I don’t think I played much of a part in his growth as a person or his building of his dream but I did sit alongside him during it all. The ups, the downs and the transformation. I’m proud he’s my friend.

He and I travelled to Shepherds Bush Empire in London to see Train on their Drops of Jupiter tour. We loved the band. We loved life and we got stupidly drunk in the upper tier bars chatting to anyone and everyone that would listen. We ran out of change/money and travelled the tube by jumping barriers to our way too posh Hotel. Brilliant carefree days of silliness.

This song always reminds me of him. He sat by and watched friends and lovers go off and experience life and the world whilst never really having the desire or need to do so himself. It hasn’t made him any worse off. He loves life. He loves what he has, what he’s worked for and who he is. I love you too Ben!

The song is about a girl who leaves home to see the world and experience life, full of hopes and dreams. She leaves behind the story teller who is deeply in love with her and has waited patiently for her return. He hopes she had a great time, she saw and felt what she needed to but that she now realises he’s still the one for her, that “heaven is over-rated”. It’s kinda pathetic, desperate but hopeful.

The shot was made on a blustery hillside in Wiltshire, one I’ve used before and love. The processing on this took days. Not to technically do but to get the right feeling, the right emotion.
