Perfect Moment
Artist: Avril Lavigne
Song: Innocence
Album: The Best Damn Thing
Model: Louisa-Marie
Location: Sparkford, Somerset

Notes:-
I once read a book called “Buffalo Soldiers” by Robert O’Connor about an American Army base in West Germany. It was a sordid and gruesome book about an out of control military station. During a drug fuelled moment, the ‘hero’ discovers something he calls an ‘MPC’. A ‘Moment of Perfect Clarity’. He describes it as a moment when all your stars align and you’re in a perfect place mentally. I relate to this and believe we all get MPC’s, rarely but they happen. That moment you stop and drink in your environment, the company around you, your feelings and emotions and realise you’re totally and utterly, ridiculously, happy. I love and live for those moments.

This lyric reminds me of those moments. They’re often fleeting but remarkable and rewarding. The image is my attempt to capture one of those moments. Reflection, beauty (literally and metaphorically) and honesty. These MPC’s usually happen to me amongst loved ones, be them friends or family.

I notice other people, happy in the moment, gazing into space with contentment and I wonder if they’re experiencing an MPC.

I used the song to accompany a viewing of a series I did for a friend. It was a maternity shoot and I only agreed to do it if we didn’t take the clichéd shots that are all too common. She agreed and posed naked, looking stunning at 8 ½ months pregnant and some gorgeous shots for her to remember her time carrying her little treasure. I’ve since had an affinity with the song that has probably lasted longer for me than it did for her!
