Blinding Light
Artist: Oasis
Song: Wonderwall
Album: (What’s the story) Morning Glory?
Model: Carla Monaco
Location: Upper Minety, Wiltshire

Notes:-
This song is a true anthem. It’s not really clear what it’s about but it defines the Britpop era. It’s so simple and yet so powerful. It’s been covered a billion times and anyone learning to play guitar learns this one fast. It made Oasis huge in the States and it’s still considered one of the best songs ever written over 20 years on.

It came out when I had totally lost faith with popular music apart from this resurgence in British guitar music that I was loving. In 1995 my son was born, I was loving life and this music. Whenever I hear it now, I still feel nostalgic and warm inside. There are many words written about its influence on a generation and how it all came about. Gallagher is quoted as saying he never wrote a song before 1997 whilst free from a drug fuelled imagination. The word ‘Wonderwall’ is odd in its own right.

I wanted the image to be simple, direct and to the point. I’d toyed with it being shot on a lane, a road and all manner of pathways until I decided that a doorway would work best. Doors are amazing. They can take us somewhere, nowhere and everywhere metaphorically and in real life. They can be welcoming and fear inducing. Where are these lights leading us? To opportunity and excitement or desperation? I wanted Carla in an evening dress as the song was never sad for me so the image suggests excitement tainted with trepidation…..?
