Notes:-
Back to my teenage years for this song written by an artist I’ve always admired and grown up with. Sting was always something different. It was fashionable to dislike The Police after their first album but I stayed loyal and loved watching his development as an artist and all round musician. The song is often misinterpreted to be a love song but it’s anything but.

At the time, this song related to a girl I’d fancied and wanted to go out with. I didn’t know her very well and didn’t feel I could just go up to her and talk to her. I was generally a socially confident guy but I didn’t want to mess this one up with some silly cheesy approach. So, I tried to learn what I could about her by discreetly asking around. I found out where she worked by overhearing someone she knew talking about her in the pub. I now realise it must’ve been a bit creepy but I turned up at the shop at closing time on a Saturday afternoon and decided to follow her. I followed her home so I knew where she lived. I learned a lot about her in the next few weeks and did end up chatting to her, as I always made sure my mates and I went to the same pub she and her friends went to. You must know that there were no ill intentions on my part; I just wanted to know all I could, give myself the best chance with her. Anyway, long story short, we ended up dating, living together and having a fun time for a few years so it all worked out in the end. Sting always said that the song was a little sinister and about jealousy and ownership.

The photograph itself, I decided to shoot at my then home and gave it a ‘stalker’ edge by making it voyeuristic. The idea came from another photographer’s work and this image kick-started the whole project. I think at the time Lou the model thought the idea was a bit strange but I still think it works well.
