Truth
Artist: The Only Ones
Song: It’s the Truth
Album: The Only Ones
Model: Ezzie
Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire UK

The Only Ones were a band I listened to loads from around 1978 when this album came out. They were a punk band that developed over time and weren’t afraid to produce songs that weren’t just guitar thrash.

This song had a profound effect on me and is a short, slow ballad. It describes a drugged-up person managing to lose his love during his addiction but not being able to stop the one thing he knows would save his relationships. He states his inability to stop using and tells her why he loves her and doesn’t want her to go.

This line is the last of the poignant lyrics and is priceless and clever. I can’t remember how many times I’ve listened to somebody and remembered this line. They’d be far better just shutting up than spilling countless lies and unfulfillable promises that serves to only make things a whole lot worse. I’m always saddened as to how low people stoop when desperately needy and addicted. I know they mean everything at the time but then the next ‘hit’ comes calling and all logic and self-worth fly out the window. Addiction is a terrible, terrible all-consuming disease.

This was another picture I was clear about how I wanted to shoot. One single harsh light and gag. The wide-eyes and slight look of defiance/innocence on Ezzie’s face say it all. She will give her addiction up, how dare you not believe her…
