Song: Light My Fire
Album: The Doors

Notes:-
I was never into The Doors per se but this song and “Break on Through” both did something for me during the 80’s. I’d never even heard of a Hammond Organ before let alone appreciated it. During the song, the organ break is slightly chaotic and yet somehow together, the drums off-beating in accompaniment, it spoke to me of the sometimes slightly seedy world I was living in (loving). The guitar solo contrasting with its beautiful melody but still with the organ grating away in the background reminded me of my world of the time. The song then re-collects itself and gets back on an orderly track. I remember seeing the film at the cinema and being struck by how the song seems to sum up Jim Morrison’s life in 7 mins. Order, chaos, order again and a false finish. Genius and yet sad too.

The song is essentially about drug taking which was to end Morrison’s life but it was written by the guitarist, Robby Krieger. It was said that Morrison hated performing it and the fact that The Doors were recognised by it. Ironically, it was the last song he ever performed live.

I played around with the image and in fact took several shots to go with the lyric but then thought that simplicity would suit best as the song is complicated musically. However, when I came to editing the image I wasn’t happy with a straight shot. After experimenting for a couple of days with various edits, I settled on the double exposure type overlay, rather like the song itself!
