Crazy
Artist: Seal
Song: Crazy
Album: Seal
Model: Lulu Lockhart
Location: Nr Worcester, Worcestershire

Notes:-
Seal was big in the early ‘90’s and I quite liked his work. It’s well produced and his voice is gorgeous. At this time, I was living in the Midlands and free from my home town. I was independent and generally happy despite the fairly recent death of my Dad. Living with my girlfriend and partying every weekend with friends and family, it was a time of plenty (relatively) and hope.

The song was released and inspired after the collapse of the Berlin Wall and Tiananmen Square and captured that element of hope in the world. It also summed up my attitude to life then, a bit crazy and unstructured but coming together very well.

The image is obvious but especially true of how I feel a lot of the time. I have this ‘normal’ exterior that hides an inner craziness and naughtiness. The voice on my shoulder often telling me to do or say ‘naughty’ things. Nothing sinister or unpleasant, just a bit cheeky/unexpected. Occasionally the ‘naughty shoulder’ wins and I do that unexpected something, the silly face, the cake face push but mostly the shocking statement kinda thing. It’s the child in me I suppose but it’s fun and meant to invoke a happy reaction. We can all survive if we have a bit of craziness and fun in our lives, I believe that. Laughter cures, being too serious all the time is a recipe for unhappiness. I think it’s what’s wrong with our political and media climate currently. Everything is over analysed in a far too serious way, nobody’s allowed to be themselves and be free, every remark is over scrutinised. I long for the day we see some character and humour returning to our public lives. Everyone seems so quick to judge and be offended on behalf of other people. Go crazy, laugh, joke about (as long as it isn’t at someone else’s expense!). There’s a time for seriousness but also a time for humour and spontaneity, we all have that in us, don’t we?

I especially wanted to shoot this after I’d met Lulu, she’s a total professional, serious and yet light hearted and honest. Calm and easy to work with. I knew she’d be up for it and she was, she just went a bit, sorta….crazy for 10 minutes!
